Once the QDRO is drafted, it must be submitted to the court for approval. The court reviews the document to ensure it complies with the terms of the divorce settlement and applicable legal requirements. Once approved, the court will issue the QDRO as an official court order.

After receiving court approval, the next step is submitting a certified copy of the QDRO to your retirement plan administrator. The plan administrator will review the QDRO to make sure it meets the retirement plan’s rules and federal guidelines. If approved, the retirement benefits can be divided and distributed according to the terms specified in the document. Learn more about the QDRO Process here.
